Penn State Harrisburg adds two new integrated programs

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg now offers two new integrated programs in criminal justice and information systems, enabling qualified students the ability to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years.

Qualified baccalaureate students enrolled in the college’s criminal justice major in the School of Public Affairs can obtain their bachelor of science and master of arts degrees in criminal justice within five years of study.

The criminal justice bachelor’s program educates students to become effective problem-solvers as professionals in the field of criminal justice and provides graduates with the communications and analytical skills critical to succeed in criminal justice and related careers. The master’s program reflects the numerous complexities of the discipline, and provides academic leadership for students to work within corrections; institutionalized and non-institutionalized settings; victim services; adult and juvenile services; policing and law enforcement; private security; courts; and other human service organizations serving the clients of these institutions. The program also helps develop research acumen for those students who may wish to consider doctoral studies.

As an integrated program, students will gain greater depth and focus in criminal justice, helping them more clearly define their area of interest and expertise in the field, and helping to enhance their long-range academic planning and other professional goals.

The information systems major in the School of Business Administration prepares students to enter rapidly expanding fields associated with technology, including programming, systems analysis and design, database administration, network management, support services and training, and management of information resources. Students obtain competence both in information technology and in business theory.

The master's degree program in information systems is designed to meet the rapidly increasing need for technically grounded, upper-level information resources managers within business organizations. Unlike computer science programs, which tend to focus on computer hardware and architecture, this program is organized around applied computer-based activities, the development of communication skills, and managerial principles.
