New Kensington athletics updates for week of April 16

Baseball wins first PSUAC game of season

Penn State New Kensington baseball (2-12, 1-9 PSUAC) went 1-2 last week against Penn State Fayette (3-8, 2-6 PSUAC), picking up its first Penn State University Athletics Conference (PSUAC) win on April 14..

In a double header on April 13, New Kensington fell to Fayette 5-2 and 4-1. Sophomore Jake Stackiewicz had two hits including a double and a home run in the second game.

The following day, New Kensington outlasted Fayette in a 14-12 thriller. Stackiewicz had three hits, four RBI and scored four runs. Fellow sophomore Darius Bennis had three hits and two RBI. Freshman Alex Polka had three RBI on two hits. Junior pitcher Tyler Kline picked up the win on the mound.

Softball loses battles to DuBois, Fayette

The Penn State New Kensington softball team (1-15, 1-9 PSUAC) went 0-6 last week. On April 10, New Kensington fell to DuBois (2-8, 2-6 PSUAC) 13-5 and 9-7. Sophomore Stephanie Schrecengost had five hits, while freshman Lauren Torgent batted in five runs on two hits. New Kensington traveled to DuBois for another double header, but the first game was suspended due to rain with the score tied 12-12.

On April 13, New Kensington traveled to Fayette (14-10, 10-2 PSUAC) and lost two close games, 5-3 and 4-3. Sophomore Morgan Williams had four hits, including two doubles, and three runs batted in. Rebecca Wilhelm and Amanda Dynoske each had three hits. The next day, New Kensington played host to Fayette, losing by scores of 11-3 and 11-2.  Junior Erika Finn had four hits and three runs batted in for New Kensington.
