UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As members of the Penn State community, what role can each of us play to create bridges of intercultural connection? What can faculty, advisers and staff do to promote a campus culture of inclusion and positive recognition for international students and scholars?
These questions will be considered during a workshop titled “Building Intercultural Community in the Classroom and Beyond," offered from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 23, in Krause Learning Space, 221 Chambers Building on the University Park campus.
Participants can share ideas, learn new strategies and become familiar with a range of support resources on campus available for international students. Organized and led by Penn State faculty with extensive experience in international and intercultural education, the workshop will include:
- Discussion of challenges faced by international students in the transition to academic and cultural life at Penn State
- Review of research-based strategies for effective intercultural communication both in and out of the classroom
- Presentation of campus resources that are specifically designed to support international students and scholars.
Participants will be encouraged to contribute insights, best practices and additional relevant resources.
