11th-inning hit lifts Behrend baseball team over Maritime

A walk-off base hit in the 11th inning lifted the baseball team at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, to a win over Maritime. The teams met during a week of spring break play in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The Penn State Behrend softball, tennis, volleyball and water polo teams also were in action during spring break. Here are the highlights:

The Lions scored seven runs in the fifth inning against Lebanon Valley. Two of those runs came off a double from Justin Foreman, a junior from Oakdale. He hit another double against Dominican.

Alayna Derzak, a sophomore from Seven Fields, scored a run and an RBI and also hit a triple and a double against Monmouth. Jillian Williams, a sophomore from Corry, allowed just three hits and one unearned run in seven innings of pitching against Ursinus.

Yanique Apgar, a senior from Pittsburgh, and Scott Russell, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, were undefeated in both singles and doubles play during the spring break matches.

Men’s volleyball

Dillon Hildebrand, a sophomore from Red Lion, had seven kills, four digs and three assists.

Women’s water polo

Carson Hagood, a freshman from Orlando, Fla., scored three goals against Caltech. Devon Van Rensburg, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, added two goals, four steals and an assist.
