Gymnastics duo capture Big Ten weekly honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Freshman Lauren Bridgens and senior Briannah Tsang have garnered weekly honors from the Big Ten, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Bridgens was tabbed the Co-Freshman of the Week, while Tsang received Gymnast of the Week honors. Both gymnasts are being honored for the fourth time this season.

On Sunday, the then-No. 27 Nittany Lions captured a quad meet victory over Pittsburgh, Temple, and No. 31 West Virginia. On the day, Penn State finished first with a season-high 196.650 followed by host Pittsburgh (196.475), West Virginia (196.075), and Temple (194.250).

Individually for the Blue & White, Bridgens won two event titles, while Tsang captured two event titles and the all-around crown.

For Bridgens, she tallied a career-best score of 9.925 to tie for the vault title, tied a career-best 9.925 to capture a first-place finish on the uneven bars, tied a career-best 9.850 to tie for sixth on floor, and tied for 17th on beam (9.725). In the all-around, she posted the second-best score of her career (39.425) to place second.

On the day for Tsang, she tied for the balance beam title (9.875), won the floor exercise with a 9.925, and captured her eighth all-around title of the season with a 39.500. In addition to her three first-place finishes, Tsang tied a season-best 9.900 on vault to place third and she tied for sixth on the uneven bars with a 9.800.
