O'Donnell, Carter named to Tewaaraton watch list

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior Katie O’Donnell and junior Madison Carter have each been named to the 2018 Tewaaraton Award Watch List as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation earlier Thursday evening.

O’Donnell and Carter are part of the 50 initial watch list members as the field will be narrowed to the top-25 on April 26 with five finalists to be announced on May 10.

The Tewaaraton Award is given annually to the most outstanding American college lacrosse player and the 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held May 31, 2018 at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

This marks the first time in her career that O’Donnell has been recognized on the Tewaaraton Watch List and the second consecutive season for Carter after being a Tewaaraton Nominee last season as part of the top-25 players in the country along with Steph Lazo.

O’Donnell is currently riding a 26 game goal streak and has scored multiple goals in 12 straight including all four games this season to lead the team with 14 goals. Her 14 goals also rank fourth in the Big Ten and 21st in the nation. The senior has moved her way into a tie for fourth with Madison Cyr on the Penn State all-time goals list with 156 for her career.

Carter is right behind O’Donnell with 13 goals this season to rank tied for sixth in the Big Ten and 31st in the nation. The junior also leads the Big Ten and ranks 15th in the nation averaging 6.50 draw controls per game.

Carter has moved her way up the all-time goals list at Penn State and currently ranks 15th with 131 goals in just 45 career games played.
