ADRI to host virtual sculpting, object creation workshop

January 26, 2018

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Arts and Design Research Incubator (ADRI) will host a virtual sculpting workshop led by Jenny Kenyon, ADRI research associate and forensic artist, in collaboration with the DigiFab Lab, from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture.

Participants are invited to discover and discuss the basics of virtual sculpting and object creation with a haptic arm and other virtual sculpting options in this hands-on workshop: "Haptic" relates to the sense of touch, in particular relating to the perception and manipulation of objects using the senses of touch and proprioception.

Kenyon works in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology at Penn State, University of Virginia, and the University of New Mexico, focusing on archeological work, including facial and heritage site reconstructions. She is currently developing the first forensic photography online certification program in the world, which will be available through Penn State World Campus.

The DigiFab Lab is a resource within the Stuckeman School and the School of Visual Arts designed to assist faculty and students in using digital tools in their creative process, from design through physical fabrication. Located in the Stuckeman Building, the DigiFab Lab houses 3-D scanners, 3-D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, a robotic arm, and a Phantom Desktop haptic clay carver. While the facility is primarily used by students within the Stuckeman School and the School of Visual Arts, it is open to collaboration with those in other departments across the University.

The Arts and Design Research Incubator provides support for high-impact arts and design research projects. All programs are free and open to the public and, unless otherwise noted, take place in the ADRI (16 Borland Building).
