UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Registration will open in late February for We Are Weekend, the Alumni Association’s premier summer event that’s scheduled for June 1-3.

A variety of events are planned for We Are Weekend, including:

College of Health and Human Development-hosted events

Sign up for an alumni cooking class that will focus on eating a delicious, healthy dinner. Taking place in Henderson Building, enjoy an evening of fun and food in a 12-kitchen lab space, with the event highlighting the science and recipes of Professor of Nutritional Sciences Barbara Rolls’ "The Volumetrics Eating Plan" and "The Ultimate Volumetrics Diet," both of which are top-ranked U.S. News and World Report diet books.

Tour the Golf Teaching and Research Center during an open house at Keller Building. Learn about the research and biomechanics of golf and enjoy a short-swing evaluation and lesson. Using innovative technology, instructors can pinpoint characteristics and errors that occur in a golfer’s swing, short game, equipment and more.

Tour the Center for Fitness and Wellness (IM Building) and undergo an assessment of your blood pressure, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility during an open house — and learn how upper-level health and human development students gain clinical experience.

“Our partnership with the Penn State Alumni Association during We Are Weekend gives us the opportunity to highlight faculty, centers and programs that are fulfilling the mission of our college,” said Abby Diehl, assistant dean for alumni relations and special projects.

“When alumni participate in our programs during We Are Weekend, we hope that they will be reminded of the experiences in which they participated as students that were really meaningful to them that helped shape their college careers, and that they will learn new information that will benefit them in their daily lives now.”

Lion’s Pantry service project

The 2017 class gift provided additional funding to help end student hunger at University Park, and We Are Weekend attendees can make an impact of their own by volunteering for half-hour shifts at the food pantry. Participants — along with everyone attending We Are Weekend — are encouraged to bring a canned good for the food pantry, and more details on the collection of canned goods during the event will be available leading up to We Are Weekend. Visit Lion’s Pantry’s website to learn more about the food pantry.

Movie night (family-friendly)

Watch "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" at the Arboretum at Penn State. Round up your family and friends and enjoy the latest installment of the Star Wars franchise. The movie will be shown outside, on the events lawn.

These events are just a small sampling of what’ll be available during We Are Weekend. Additional highlights include:

— Behind-the-scene tours of campus landmarks, such as Beaver Stadium, University Libraries and the Arboretum at Penn State.

— College events and drop-in sessions, including a hands-on tutorial at the Rogers Family Trading Room within the Smeal College of Business.

— An ice cream social and a concert on the HUB lawn.

— Commemorative photos at the Nittany Lion Shrine.

— Numerous events will celebrate and recognize the 50th Class (1968) and Penn State Pioneers.
