WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — WVIA Public Media and Pennsylvania College of Technology invite students, teachers and parents to share their unique world vision with others through public media in the Dream & Do Art Challenge.
Artists who wish to enter should use simple materials — paper, crayons, markers, pencils, pens and paint — to create an original image that depicts the world as they imagine it could be.
Those who need inspiration may turn to “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” the classic children’s book in which a boy creates an entire world with only his ideas and a purple crayon.
This challenge invites entries from artists of all ages, kindergarten through adult. It is a great opportunity for teachers and parents to work side-by-side with students, sons and daughters, to share the experience of creating art together.
To enter, simply photograph the artwork and email the digital photo (JPEG file) to elambert@pct.edu by Feb. 2. Provide a separate email for each entry and include the following information: challenge title (“Dream & Do”); artist name; teacher/parent name and email address; grade, school (or homeschool); city and state; and entry category (K-12 Teacher/Parent, Student K-6, or Student 7-12).
In addition to having their work displayed on the series website, a chosen artist in each category (teacher/parent, grade K-6 student and grade 7-12 student) will receive a basket of books and supplies related to art and design.
Working Class, a Telly Award-winning public television documentary series produced by Penn College and WVIA Public Media, is the challenge sponsor.
