UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s College of Nursing is one of 31 schools of nursing to receive a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s final funding cohort of the Future of Nursing Scholars program, which supports nurses pursuing their doctoral degrees.
The college is part of the fifth cohort of grantees for the program, which provides financial support, mentoring, and leadership development to selected scholars who commit to completing their doctoral degrees in an expedited three-year time frame.
“This program is designed to empower nurse leaders to progress efficiently,” said Julie Fairman, co-director of the Future of Nursing Scholars program.
In spring 2018, Penn State will select two students to receive the scholarship. These students will attend a boot camp with the program during summer 2018 and begin their studies in the College of Nursing in fall 2018.
“We are honored to be selected for funding from the Future of Nursing Scholars program for the second time,” said Susan J. Loeb, associate professor of nursing and director of the doctoral program in nursing. “We currently have two scholars in the second year of their Ph.D. studies and are eager to select two additional applicants who will focus their attention on their education rather than employment during their three years of study.”
Scholarship recipients will receive funding to cover the cost of tuition, travel to required meetings, and a stipend. Nurses who are interested in the opportunity to become a Penn State Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar should apply through the Graduate School at Penn State and indicate their interest in their goal statement.
