UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Beginning at 6:55 p.m. (18:55 in military time, representing the year of Penn State's founding) on Nov. 27 until midnight EST on Nov. 28, members of the Penn State community are invited to make a gift to any area of the University as part of Penn State’s participation in #GivingTuesday, a national day to celebrate the power of giving back.

Twenty-seven colleges, campuses, and units have organized #GivingTuesday challenges to build momentum for the event and support causes within their units. Penn State graduates of the last decade (GOLD) who support a #GivingTuesday challenge with a gift of $10 or more will unlock an additional $100 contribution from Penn State.

In addition, Penn State students will be celebrating across the Commonwealth. At University Park, 11 student organizations will engage in fundraising efforts to support their organizations as part of the event. These efforts will begin in the days leading up to #GivingTuesday and will culminate with a final fundraising push in the HUB on Nov. 28. The organizations that receive the most support — in terms of dollars raised and number of gifts — will earn additional contributions from the University, up to $1000 each.

When you visit Penn State’s #GivingTuesday page on Nov. 27 and 28, you can also receive live updates on fundraising progress across the University and, of course, make a gift. Announcements and livestreaming will be available on the @RaisePennState Facebook, Instagram and Twitter platforms, and participating Penn State units will be actively sharing content on their social pages throughout the day using the hashtag #PSUGivingTue. We hope you will join us in making #GivingTuesday 2017 a success.

Gifts from Penn State's alumni and friends have been essential to the success of the University's historic land-grant mission to serve the public good. To fulfill that mission for a new era of rapid change and global connections, the University has begun "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence," a fast-paced campaign focused on the three key imperatives of a public university. Private support will keep the doors to higher education open and enable students to graduate on time and on track to success; create transformative experiences on Penn State campuses and around the globe that tap the full potential of Penn Staters to make a difference; and impact the world through discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
