Penn State Athletics preparing to engage community Nov. 28 for #GivingTuesday

Nittany Lion Club members can enhance the student-athlete experience

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics has announced it will again participate in #GivingTuesday, a global day of impact held this year on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Created in 2012, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, which includes holiday and end-of-year giving.

Penn State coaches and staff will spend part of the day giving back in the community. Intercollegiate Athletics has partnered with State College Meals on Wheels, Toys for Tots, Centre County Women’s Resource Center, the State College Food Bank and Housing Transitions to make an impact in Centre County.

Community members can drop off donations for Toys for Tots and the State College Food Bank at the Founders’/Guest Entrance on the east side of the Bryce Jordan Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 28.

Fans are encouraged to share their community service and the reasons they give by using the hashtags #WeAreGiving on #PSUGivingTue on social media.

The challenge for student-athlete excellence

Penn State Athletics is challenging alumni and fans to make a gift on #GivingTuesday to help create the very best conditions for academic and athletic success for Nittany Lion student-athletes. Those who make a gift on Nov. 28 will participate in the challenge for student-athlete excellence and will receive Nittany Lion Club benefits based on donation level. Visit www.GoPSUSports.com/GivingTuesday to participate.

Levi Lamb Annual Fund

Contributions to the Levi Lamb Annual Fund go directly to awarding scholarships to student-athletes from all of Penn State’s 31 varsity sports. Increasing contributions to the annual fund will directly impact Nittany Lion student-athletes, including scholarships and NCAA legislation that has added cost of attendance and new nutritional resources within the past couple of years, totaling an additional $1.75 million within ICA’s budget.

Nittany Lion Club members who make gifts to the Levi Lamb Fund for ticket and parking benefits on Nov. 28 will receive NLC early renewal points. Gifts made by Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD donors) of any amount will result in additional $100 to the Levi Lamb Fund.

Giving to the annual fund makes a significant difference in student-athlete support and Nittany Lion Club members are encouraged to consider giving above their ticket and parking gift on #GivingTuesday.

Challenge goals

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking to reach 500 gifts and $150,000 of support to Penn State student-athletes on Nov. 28.

Fans can follow Nittany Lion coaches and staff in the community, and get updates on the University's #GivingTuesday efforts, on Penn State Athletics social media and by visiting GoPSUsports.com/GivingTuesday. Penn Staters who donate their time or resources on Nov. 28 are encouraged to use #WeAreGiving on #PSUGivingTue on Twitter.
