EASTON, Pa. — The Penn State and Lafayette College men’s basketball programs have partnered with the One America organization for an exhibition game in support of hurricane relief to be held on Saturday, Nov. 4. Doors at the Kirby Center on the Lafayette campus will open at noon with tipoff at 1 p.m. ET.
All proceeds from the event, including ticket sales and concessions, will go to One America Appeal, a joint initiative originally launched by all five living former American Presidents to encourage fellow citizens to support recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey. The appeal has since been expanded to include areas most affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
With the goal being to generate the greatest amount of funds possible for One America, all tickets will be general admission and require a $5 donation for students and a $10 donation for all other fans. Tickets are available for purchase through the Kirby Sports Center ticket office or online at GoLeopardsTickets.com.
“It is incredibly important for us to support the One America Appeal,” said Nittany Lion coach Patrick Chambers. “We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with Lafayette and bring Penn State basketball to the Lehigh Valley area for this worthy cause. If we are able to assist those affected by these disasters by playing the game we love, it’s a win across the board.”
Both the Penn State and Lafayette programs have ties to areas affected by Hurricane Harvey, with players on their respective rosters from Houston.
All donations will go to help victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, affecting areas in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In Texas, monies will go to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund focusing on the greater Houston region, and the Rebuild Texas Fund assisting communities across the state. In Florida, monies will go to the Florida Disaster Fund, which is the state’s official private fund to assist the state’s communities as they respond to and recover from destructive storms.
In the Caribbean, donations will be distributed to Unidos Por Puerto Rico launched by the office of First Lady Beatriz Rossello together with the private sector coalition, The Fund for the Virgin Islands, which was established 25 years ago by the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands for relief efforts.
