UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Nominations are being accepted for the 2018-19 Penn State Laureate, an opportunity for a full-time faculty member who will be assigned half time to serve as the University Laureate for one academic year.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, Jan. 19, 2018.
The nominee can be a poet laureate, humanities laureate, or fine arts laureate. The individual selected to be the laureate will make appearances during the 2018-19 academic year at events held at the University Park campus, the Commonwealth Campuses, and in communities throughout Pennsylvania.
The laureate will be a highly visible representative of the University who brings enhanced levels of social, cultural, artistic, and human perspective and awareness to a broad array of audiences. The position will enable the laureate to bring greater visibility to his or her own work and to Penn State, and add a more human dimension to the affairs of the University and the Commonwealth.
Nominations are being solicited from throughout the University community, and self-nominations are welcomed. A nomination packet should include a one-page letter of nomination addressed to Kathleen Bieschke, vice provost for faculty affairs, and a curriculum vitae of no more than 20 pages. The letter should explain how the nominee and his or her work will enhance social, cultural, artistic, and human perspective and awareness among a variety of audiences.
