ERIE, Pa. — Lynsey Addario was one of the first Western journalists to enter Taliban-controlled Afghanistan before 9/11. She also has covered conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon, Darfur, South Sudan and Congo.
For Addario, it’s all part of the job. She will be the first to say, “It’s What I Do.”
Addario will discuss her career and her memoir, “It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War,” on Thursday, Nov. 9, when she visits Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, as part of its Speaker Series. Her presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. in McGarvey Commons of the college’s Reed Union Building. The program is free and open to the public.
“It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War” is the common book chosen for the 2017-18 Penn State Reads program. Warner Bros. has optioned the best-selling memoir for a film to be directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Jennifer Lawrence.
Addario was part of The New York Times' 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning international reporting team. A year later, she was named one of 20 women on Oprah Winfrey's Power List and was among Glamour Magazine’s 20 women of the year in 2011. In 2015, American Photo Magazine named Addario one of the five most influential photographers of the past 25 years. Her work has also appeared in Time, Newsweek and National Geographic.
