Mystic Warriors Band brings Andean music to Penn State Fayette

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — Andean music group Mystic Warriors will perform at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the campus Community Center.

According to the band’s website, Mystic Warriors is “dedicated to exposing the essence of Andean music,” marrying the sounds of Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru with contemporary jazz, Latin, and pop. They deliver a message of “universal peace and harmony” with a mix of traditional and contemporary instruments, including ancient Andean lutes and panpipes.

The band was founded by Andres and Marco Mallea in Washington, D.C., in 1993 with the mission of making Andean music more accessible to the United States. Mystic Warriors has performed at fairs, festivals and venues across the country to audiences including government agencies, embassies, museums, universities and others. The band was invited to perform at the White House in 1994 for a celebration of hispanic heritage.

Mystic Warriors has also recorded music for National Geographic. The band’s discography includes four studio albums and a live album with accompanying tour footage.
