READING, Pa. — Días de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Penn State Berks. Cesar Martinez-Garza, assistant professor of mathematics at Penn State Berks and a native of Mexico City, will provide a presentation about Días de los Muertos and its cultural and spiritual significance. The event will take place in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room, and Mexican-themed refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

Días de los Muertos is a unique event in Mexico, established long before colonization of that country. Traditionally, Días de los Muertos is a two-day celebration of loved ones who have died that takes place Nov. 1 and 2 of each year. The celebration includes building a family ofrenda (an altar or offering honoring the deceased), visiting family cemeteries plots, and enjoying favorite foods, music and stories of the deceased.

This event is sponsored by the Freyberger Gallery. For more information, contact Marilyn Fox, gallery director, at 610-396-6140 or
