UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Housing and Food Services and the Student Farm Club will hold a Local Foods Night Celebration at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4. Students and members of the community are invited to attend this celebration, which will feature a locally sourced meal.

The meal will be served in Redifer Commons from 5 to 7 p.m. and feature foods that have been sourced from local providers. The cost is $15.

Leading up to Local Foods Night, the Student Farm Club will host a film screening and a gardening workshop about urban agriculture and small-scale gardening.

The film, “Urban Roots,” explores the rise of urban farming in Detroit, which led to an environmental movement in the city and changed the way people thought about food, food systems and food security. Screening of the film will start at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Freeman Auditorium, 117 HUB-Robeson Center, and is free.

Following the film, club members will lead a gardening workshop about how to utilize small spaces, such as a dorm or apartment, for gardening. Guests also will receive a free plant, compliments of the Student Farm. The gardening workshop is free.
