"Skinnydipping," an exhibition of two- and three-dimensional work that explores what it means to be a young American today, will be on display from Oct. 12 to Nov. 4, in the Woskob Family Gallery at 146 South Allen Street, State College, Pennsylvania.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12.

Selected from an open call for student curatorial proposals, "Skinnydipping" features the work of recent Penn State graduate Sidney Mullis, master of fine arts in 2015, and current bachelor of fine arts candidate Elise Warfield.

Tackling gender, sexuality, and suburban American culture, the work is both deeply personal and universally relatable as the artists grapple with coming of age in the current political landscape. By situating figures in suburban environments rendered through skewed perspectival viewpoints, Warfield hints at uneasy undercurrents beneath the everyday. In sculptural works using materials ranging from low-tech papier-mâché to modern technology such as the iPhone, Mullis explores how young adults perform their identities. The artists’ treatment of color and the allied subject matter creates a unifying language that links Warfield’s figurative paintings and drawings to Mullis’s abstracted sculptures
