UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Chamber Orchestra will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, located at 780 Waupelani Drive in State College. The ensemble's program features guest artist mezzo-soprano Timothi Williams, a 2016 alumnus, in a performance of "Folk Songs" by 20th-century Italian composer Luciano Berio, as well as compositions by Puccini, Stravinsky and Richard Wagner. The Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Gerardo Edelstein.

The suggested donation is $12 for members of the general public and $2 for students.

Program

Concerto in E-flat ("Dumbarton Oaks") — Igor Stravinsky

I Crisantemi — Giacomo Puccini

Folk Songs — Luciano Berio (with Timothi Williams, mezzo-soprano)

Sigfried Idyll, WWV 103 — Richard Wagner

Williams is a recent graduate of Penn State’s vocal performance and pedagogy program. She received her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from West Liberty University in 2014.

She has had the pleasure of performing several operatic roles on stage, such as Jo in Mark Adamo’s "Little Women," Rosina in Rossini’s "Barber of Seville," and most recently Bradamante in Handel’s "Alcina." Williams also has been invited to sing with many chamber and orchestral ensembles in State College and also throughout the Pittsburgh area. Aside from her performance endeavors, Williams also has a passion for education and enjoys sharing the gift of voice with others through her private voice studio.

An ensemble of varying size as dictated by the repertoire, the Chamber Orchestra performs works from the 18th through the 21st centuries. The Chamber Orchestra has made three European tours. Repertoire from recent years has included works by Mozart, Copland, Haydn, Stravinsky, Schubert, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Ravel, Debussy and Beethoven. Enrollment, open to all University Park students, is by audition at the beginning of each semester.
