Distracted driving the focus of upcoming event

HERSHEY, Pa. — The adult and pediatric trauma programs at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center are partnering with the Derry Township Police Department to offer a free community program on distracted driving. It will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Derry Township Administration Building.

During the program, Officer Darren Cotten will discuss the legal implications and other issues that can be caused by distracted driving. Clinical providers from the Hershey Medical Center trauma program will offer insights into what they see as a result of distracted driving in the emergency department and the trauma center on a regular basis. Also, a family will share their own personal story about how distracted driving has changed their life.

This program is free and open to the public. Teenagers, parents and drivers of all ages are invited to attend to learn more about the dangers of distracted driving and how they can keep themselves and others safe on the roads. To register, call 717-531-3885.
