TechCelerator @State College accepting applications for fall boot camp

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Ben Franklin’s TechCelerator @State College is inviting area entrepreneurs, researchers and graduate students to participate in its next 10-week boot camp. The weekly sessions will run from 2-4 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 26 through Dec. 5.

The boot camp is designed for individuals eager to implement a new, tech-based business idea.

The TechCelerator @State College provides boot camp participants with up to $1,000 toward startup costs plus the chance to pitch their business idea to a panel of entrepreneurs at the completion of the course. The top team will receive $10,000 in seed funding to help get the business off the ground.

Business mentoring from Ben Franklin’s Transformation Business Services Network and Penn State’s Small Business Development Center staff will be available at no cost. Participants will come away from the experience with a viable business model in addition to a list of networking contacts and a path forward. But, perhaps the most important thing prospective entrepreneurs will gain is the confidence that comes from knowing whether or not it’s the right time for them to start their own business.

Sixty-one startup companies have launched with the help of Ben Franklin’s TechCelerator @State College, raising a combined $20 million in startup funds and generating $8 million in revenue. Additional information is available at http://www.techceleratorstatecollege.org.

The boot camp is free of charge, but space is limited. For more information, contact Bob Dornich at 814-865-7332 or BobDornich@psu.edu. The deadline for applications is Sept. 15.
