Residence Life seeking students interested in becoming resident assistants

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Residence Life is currently seeking students who are interested in serving as resident assistants.

Resident assistants work in a residence hall or apartment setting under the direct supervision of a professional live-in staff member (coordinator/assistant coordinator). The role of the RA is to work with other residence hall staff to facilitate an environment within the residence hall community that promotes the educational experience of residential living.

Through their roles as student educators, RAs are faced with the responsibility of helping students grow beyond their academic development. Whether it is organizing an educational program on relationships, helping someone with class scheduling, or just being there to listen when someone is lonely, RAs have a tremendous impact on residents’ lives. Besides the benefit of helping others, students also gain valuable skills and experiences from being placed in such a challenging leadership role.

In order to become an RA, a student must:

  • Have completed 12 Penn State credits (Advanced Placement and transfer credits not included);
  • Have at least a 2.4 cumulative Penn State GPA; and
  • Be in good conduct standing with the University.

Students interested in applying must attend an information session, which are being offered on campus through Sept. 7. The schedule is as follows:

  • 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29 — 22 Biobehavioral Health Building
  • 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30  — 22 Biobehavioral Health Building
  • 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 — 22 Biobehavioral Health Building
