Community guidelines for official Penn State social media accounts

Penn State's official social media channels encourage active discussion and sharing of information and thoughts.

Please show respect for your fellow users by keeping the discussion civil.

  • The University will abide by the rules and regulations adopted by the respective host site and asks all users to do the same when commenting and viewing University social media accounts. 
  • Posts and comments made on University social media accounts that contain the following are prohibited and will be subject to deletion:
    • Direct threats of physical harm to another, threats of violence or words inciting violence.
    • Obscenity, pornography, or profanity.
    • Slander/libel.
    • Comments that contain harassing or discriminatory language that violates the law or University policy.
    • Opinions from users that may be implied to be on the behalf of the University.
    • Product advertisements and other commercial promotion or solicitation.
    • Spam.
    • Political endorsements.
    • Redundant posting of comments by the same user. 
    • Comments/discussions that are off topic, not appropriate to the time and place (Social media topics are defined by the content provided [through posts, retweets, etc.] by the social media administrator.)
    • Comments that otherwise violate the law, University policy, or the rules and regulations of the applicable host site.
  • Users who continually violate this policy or who make threats of physical harm or violence can be banned from making further comments on University social media accounts. 

We are not responsible for the comments posted by visitors to the page as they do not reflect the opinions or policies of the University.
