WPSU Penn State honored with industry awards for excellence in broadcasting

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — WPSU Penn State’s monthly public affairs call-in show, its new online platform that showcases digital-first content, and a radio series that discusses the complexities of reporting sexual assault have been honored for their excellence in broadcasting.

The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters honored WPSU with three awards during the organization’s annual luncheon on Monday, May 8, in Hershey.

The station earned awards for:

  • Outstanding television public affairs program/program series: WPSU-TV’s "Conversations LIVE"
  • Outstanding use of digital media: WPSU Digital Studios
  • Outstanding radio feature story/report/series: WPSU-FM’s "Reporting Sexual Assault"

"SciTech Now," part of the WPSU Digital Studios, captures the latest breakthroughs in science and technology. WPSU Digital Studios won a Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters award for outstanding use of digital media. 

“Conversations LIVE,” which airs monthly during the academic year, welcomes guest experts and community interaction for an in-depth discussion on local and national issues. The season’s final episode, “Get Your Garden On,” will air at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, on WPSU-TV.

WPSU Digital Studios creates unique, digital-first content that tells the stories of the diverse people and places in central Pennsylvania. The new endeavor hopes to complement the programming that is seen and heard on WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM, and provide web exclusives with participatory content. WPSU Digital Studios include series “Women in Science Profiles,” “Metronome,” “Pennsylvania Makers,” “Science U” and “SciTech Now.”

WPSU-FM’s “Reporting Sexual Assault” was a three-part series that discussed the resources, challenges and reporting requirements for reporting sexual assault in Centre County. The series was produced by Emily Reddy, Eleanor Klibanoff and Erin Cassidy Hendrick.
