UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Commission for Women has selected "Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office: Unconscious Mistakes Women Make that Sabotage Their Careers," by Lois Frankel, as its annual read for 2017. The greater Penn State community is encouraged to participate in the reading event and to join in a University-wide discussion of the book from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, in the Hintz Family Alumni Center, Conference Rooms B and C.

The discussion will be led by Carrie Marcinkevage, managing director for the MBA and Management and Organizational Leadership programs in Smeal College of Business and chair of the Women of Smeal professional development initiative. Regarding 'Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office," Marcinkevage commented, “The book uncovers over 100 behaviors we learn in girlhood that could sabotage us as adults. We’ll have a lively discussion comparing our favorite mistakes and the ways we support one another in defining our own success.”

Several copies of the book are available for loan from the University Libraries, and can also be purchased at major book retailers.

The brown-bag event is being co-sponsored by the Commission for Women and the Women of Smeal. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch. Beverages and dessert will be provided. Remote participation will be possible through Zoom videoconferencing.
