CLGBTQE seeks nominations for Outstanding Service, Academic Achievement awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Equity (CLGBTQE) is seeking nominations of individuals from the Penn State community who have contributed outstanding service working on LGBTQ issues. Nominees must demonstrate work toward improving the climate of inclusion and advancing LGBTQ issues at Penn State.

Each year, the commission seeks nominations to recognize individuals in the Penn State community who have worked to improve the lives of LGBTQ Penn Staters. The commission invites self-nominations and encourages students, faculty and staff to nominate their colleagues.

“The diversity of Penn State is enriched immeasurably by so many talented, dedicated and passionate people from across the whole University system,” said Amy Dupain Vashaw, CLGBTQE nominating committee chair. “The awards committee looks forward each year to learning more about some of these particularly brilliant contributors to a welcoming climate through the nominations process. We are thrilled to be able to honor such incredible people each year.”

Those interested in applying for these awards should visit http://equity.psu.edu/clgbtqe/awards. Two awards are given annually.

“CLGBTQE’s Outstanding Service and Academic Achievement awards seek to recognize those in our Penn State community who fully personify the ideals of equity and inclusion at our University, whether through a passionate dedication to the betterment of the social environments that LGBTQ students, staff and faculty inhabit or by the advancement of scholastic understanding of the LGBTQ community in their chosen field of study and instruction,” Borja Gutiérrez, 2016-18 CLGBTQE chair. “In other words, these awards spotlight individuals who have gone above and beyond in making Penn State truly an academic home for LGBTQ people.”

Information about the nomination process is available on the CLGBTQE Awards webpage. For more information about the awards, contact Amy Dupain Vashaw at adv1@psu.edu. Nominations are due by Friday, Feb. 28.

"Identifying and developing LGBTQ leaders is absolutely critical to the success of our mission. Whether you lead a student organization, volunteer at a community center, or conduct cutting-edge research, your hard work makes Penn State a better and more welcoming university,” said Ricky Bohn, CLGBTQE inclusion coordinator. “These awards are just one way we celebrate the accomplishments of our most inspiring leaders."
