UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Dr. Frank Alderman, co-founder and CEO of MedExpress Urgent Care, will share his perspectives on entrepreneurship and business with the Penn State Smeal College of Business on Friday, Feb. 3. His visit is part of Smeal’s Executive Insights series.
Alderman will take part in a moderated discussion with Charles H. Whiteman, John and Becky Surma Dean of Smeal, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. in the Struthers Auditorium, Room 110 of the Business Building. The event is free and open to the public, but online registration is required at www.smeal.psu.edu/insights.
Alderman’s visit is the first Executive Insights session this spring. Tim Ryan, U.S. chairman and senior partner at PwC, is scheduled to visit the college on Feb. 28.
After earning a medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Alderman established himself as an emergency room doctor. It was during that time when he was exposed to frequent unnecessary visits to the ER and the resultant overcrowding.
Recognizing the need for a different model, Alderman and his partners opened their first MedExpress in 2001 in Morgantown, West Virginia. The company, which sold to UnitedHealth for $1.5 billion in 2015, now operates nearly 200 facilities in 15 states.
Executive Insights is designed to complement the Smeal educational experience by bringing high-profile business leaders to the college to connect with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
