UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Themed activities for Penn State students promote fun and learning in the University Libraries during the spring 2017 semester. During the University Libraries’ “Blind Date with a Book” on Feb. 6-17, shelves in the Franklin Atrium of the Pattee Library on Penn State’s University Park campus will be filled with both fiction and non-fiction books available for students to take on a reading date.

Just a few clues and keywords will describe the wrapped books with hundreds of titles available. Books may not be unwrapped until after they are checked out at the lending services desk.

Penn State students, faculty and staff who want to test their creativity in the kitchen are invited to compete in a themed cake baking and decorating activity for the Monday, March 20, edible book festival. The baked cakes must have the theme of books and reading with judging in five categories: people's choice, most creative, best depiction of a classic, funniest/punniest, and most appetizing. Judging takes place between noon and 1 p.m. in the Mann Assembly Room.

National Poetry Month sets the theme for the Wednesday, April 19, Poetry Slam in the University Libraries. From 7 to 9 p.m. in the Mann Assembly Room, students can share poetry they have written or read some of their favorite poems. Snacks and beverages will be provided during this event.

Persons with disabilities who anticipate needing accommodations or who have questions about physical access may contact Megan Gilpin at mcg13@psu.edu or 814-867-0069.
