UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — It’s called “spring semester,” but all Penn Staters know to expect a fair share of cold and ice and snow over the coming months. On those days when it’s too cold or slippery to walk around campus, count on the Campus Shuttle. Now, it’s even more convenient to take the shuttle, with the introduction of the free downloadable TransLoc Rider app.

The Campus Shuttle provides no-fare transportation around the University Park campus for faculty, staff, students and visitors. The shuttle operates from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekdays, with service every 15 minutes.

TransLoc Rider offers passengers several convenient features. Passengers can:

  • Track their bus in real time
  • Get accurate predictions of when the shuttle will arrive at their stop
  • Save their favorite stops and routes and set customized alerts
  • Receive important system-wide announcements about shuttle service

TransLoc Rider, used at more than 140 locations nationwide, is available for free on both iOS and Android phone systems, or viewable at psu.transloc.com. Passengers without a smartphone can still use TransLoc Rider to get real-time arrival predictions via text.

“Using the Campus Shuttle is a great way for faculty, staff, students and visitors to get around campus, and the new TransLoc app makes it even easier,” says Rob DeMayo, director of Transportation Services. “With the ability to see real-time shuttle locations and estimated arrival times, riders can spend less time waiting at a shuttle stop — an advantage during the cold winter months.”

Stops for the Paratransit Shuttle, which provides free transportation for students, faculty and staff with mobility impairments, are programmed into the app as well. Those interested in using this service should contact the Parking Office for more information.

Plans are under way for CATA Loop and Link routes to be added to TransLoc Rider in the future.
