Penn State Altoona to host annual MLK Jr. luncheon

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will hold its eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Reflection Luncheon at noon on Monday, Jan. 16, in the Adler gymnasium. 

J.T. Thomas will be the keynote speaker. As Florida State’s first black football player, Thomas blocked two field goals in his first game in 1970. He was a first team All-American pick by Pro Football Weekly and Time Magazine as a senior in 1972. The following year, he was the No. 1 draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers and became part of the legendary Steel Curtain Defense that helped the team win four Super Bowls.

The luncheon is sponsored by the Office of Institutional Equity, Diversity, and International Student Services. It is free and open to the public.
