UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This year’s THON blood drive campaign will kick off Dec. 8 at the HUB-Robeson Center and run through THON weekend. During the campaign, the American Red Cross will donate $2 to THON for all presenting donors, and donors can credit the donation to the organization of their choice.
Donating blood is a life-saving gift to those battling cancer, as most cancer patients will require blood products as part of their treatment. This blood cannot be manufactured; it can only come from generous volunteer donors.
Donating blood only takes about one hour, and within that hour a donor can both raise money for THON and provide blood to those who need it most. Furthermore, donors who are eligible and donate at the Dec. 8 kick off at the HUB will be eligible to donate again after Feb. 2 through THON weekend (Feb. 17-19), allowing them to double their contribution and impact.
Donors are encouraged to eat a good meal one to two hours before donating blood and drink plenty of water. Donors must be 16 years of age or older and have a valid photo ID to donate.
