Ceramics students to present lending library of ceramic objects

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Students in the course ART 480 Advanced Ceramics, led by Assistant Professor Shannon Goff, will establish a lending library of ceramic objects Nov. 13 to 26 in the Patterson Gallery. The students will have an additional presence from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, and Wednesday, Nov. 16, on the ground floor of Pattee Library near the information desk. All interested parties are welcome to check out a functional or sculptural item for a period of 48 hours.

The goal of this project is to allow individuals to foster a relationship with a handmade object, and also to “meet the makers.” Profiles of the artists will accompany the works. By getting to know the creator, the lendee may forge a personal and tactile connection to the object. Lendees are encouraged to use the hashtag #handcandyPSU to share their experiences via social media with the Penn State community and beyond. The project aims to reach beyond the College of Arts and Architecture to individuals who may have not previously had the opportunity to live with and use works of art. Although the objects must be returned, the experience may germinate into a lifelong appreciation for the handmade, as well as for the very makers themselves.

A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Patterson Gallery.
