Bollards project on Pollock Road to impact traffic

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Beginning on Nov. 14, Pollock Road will close to through traffic for replacement of the automated bollards near Old Main. Sidewalks through the area will remain open to pedestrians but may be narrowed.

The existing automated bollards will be replaced with automated gates, which will offer greater reliability, require less maintenance and enhance the ability to control traffic through the area. The gates will be similar to ones recently installed in the parking decks and will be tied into the new parking access and control system, allowing for better monitoring and control.

While bicyclist access during construction will be impacted, once the gates are installed a 5-foot gap between the gates will allow bicyclists to pass through when the gates are closed.

Weather-permitting, the project is expected to be completed by Nov. 23.
