Interim Dean Gary Gildin co-authors 'Trial Advocacy Basics,' second edition

The National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) published "Trial Advocacy Basics," Second Edition, co-authored by Dickinson Law Interim Dean and Professor of Law Gary S. Gildin and Molly Townes O’Brien, associate professor at the ANU College of Law at the Australian National University.

NITA’s mission is “the training and development of skilled and ethical legal advocates to improve the adversarial justice system.” The organization is the nation’s leading provider of legal advocacy skills training, pioneering the learning-by-doing methodology. NITA also is one of the top nonprofit publishers of legal publications in the world, producing materials used by thousands of attorneys and incorporated in the curriculum at over 85 percent of the law schools in the country.

“I was greatly honored to have been approached by NITA to co-author the second edition of 'Trial Advocacy Basics,'” Gildin stated. “The book incorporates my current thinking on the importance of and method for finding a single factual story of the case, as well as how to ensure every aspect of the trial contributes to that story. Professor O’Brien is a uniquely skilled, straightforward and humorous communicator of what we agree are the most important attributes of each individual advocacy skill.”
