UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State is hosting its first ever Immersive Reality Symposium on Oct. 31 to showcase the broad spectrum of virtual, augmented and mixed reality research that is underway throughout the University.
The symposium will bring together members of industry, government and the greater Penn State community that are interested in exploring the unique opportunities within some of today’s most immersive technologies.
The keynote speaker for the event is Joaquim Jorge, an Association for Computing Machinery Distinguished Speaker and professor of computer graphics and multimedia at the Universidade de Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal.
The daylong event, which will be held at the HUB-Robeson Center in Heritage Hall on the University Park campus, is sponsored by Penn State Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) and the Center for Online Innovation in Learning at Penn State.
“This event is designed to serve as a platform for discussing which reality is suitable for advancing knowledge, given a certain context, and other topics surrounding the emerging paradigm of immersive reality,” said Conrad Tucker, assistant professor of engineering design and industrial engineering and a TLT Fellow who is helping to organize the symposium. “Following the symposium, the goal is to explore external funding that helps address some of the knowledge gaps.”
Tucker is also an affiliate faculty member in computer science and engineering.
The call for exhibitors to present at the event is currently open to Penn State faculty, staff or students that are exploring virtual, augmented or mixed reality technologies. Space is limited and all proposals must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Oct. 3.
