'Credit Cards,' how to manage paying with plastic, offered Aug. 17

Workshop is free and open to the public

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — There are pros and cons to paying with plastic. Managed smartly, credit can be a useful tool — but credit can also get you in trouble if you don't understand how it works.

"Credit Cards," a workshop for students, faculty and staff, will be offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, in the Mann Assembly Room of Paterno Library at University Park. The workshop is free and open to the public.

At this workshop Penn State Financial Literacy Manager Daad Rizk will discuss the pros and cons of paying with credit cards, how to read a credit card statement, how to manage credit card debt, and how credit cards can impact your credit history, credit report, and credit score. This workshop also will uncover the mystery of how a FICO score is calculated and reveal tips to protect your financial reputation.

For more information, or if you anticipate needing accommodations or have questions about the physical access provided, contact Lauren Reiter at lmr29@psu.edu or 814-865-4414 in advance of the workshop.

The presentation is part of Money Counts: A Financial Literacy Series, a collaborative effort of the Penn State Commission for Adult Learners and the University Libraries. Visit the financial literacy website at http://financialliteracy.psu.edu/.
