Engineering graduate student group hosts blood drive to help ease shortage

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Engineering Graduate Student Council has organized an American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 25 in Kunkle Lounge in Hammond Building on the University Park campus.

“Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds, and most of us will need blood in our lifetime,” said Brittany Banik, bioengineering graduate student and EGSC blood drive coordinator.

She added that the American Red Cross is facing a significant blood shortage and has issued an emergency request for eligible blood and platelet donors of all blood types to donate blood and help save lives.

Interested donors can check availability here and then sign up for an appointment via a Google form.

Questions about the drive can be directed to Banik at blb316@psu.edu.
