CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Downtown Bethlehem Association (DBA) businesses are coming together on Saturday, July 30, to raise funds for the fight against pediatric cancer in honor of Penn State Lehigh Valley Day.

Downtown businesses participating in the third annual Penn State Lehigh Valley Day will donate 5 percent of their sales from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 30 to benefit the fight against pediatric cancer. Some businesses will also be offering a special item or discount to Penn State Lehigh Valley Day passport holders. See the full list of businesses below.

Passports are $10 with 100 percent of the proceeds to be donated to pediatric cancer research. The passport will be stamped by each participating business upon the customer’s visit. Once a passport is stamped five times it can then be entered to win a DBA raffle basket featuring Penn State merchandise, gift certificates from participating businesses and a getaway accommodation package from the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.

Passports are available for purchase on the Downtown Bethlehem Association’s website prior to the event, or in the Historic Hotel Bethlehem lobby the day of the event. Participation in the event is not limited to Penn State alumni. The event is open to all area residents, families and visitors.

A downtown party will also be held on Main Street throughout the day. The Nittany Lion will be roaming the street, while activities will offer family friendly fun. Social media users are encouraged to use the hashtag #PSULVDay2016 when posting comments or photos about the event.

The sessions will review Penn State’s admissions process, financial aid timeline and the more than 160 academic options available. The session for parents will also feature a presentation about Lehigh Valley LaunchBox, a business accelerator for early stage entrepreneurs.

This is the third Penn State Lehigh Valley Day to be held. The idea for the event was formed jointly between Penn State Lehigh Valley and the Historic Hotel Bethlehem, which has been serving Penn State’s Berkey Creamery ice cream since September 2013. The Historic Hotel Bethlehem approached the DBA with the idea of holding a special fundraising event to help Penn State Lehigh Valley aid families and children in the battle against pediatric cancer.

The night before Penn State Lehigh Valley Day, an alumni and friends event will be held at the Historic Hotel Bethlehem’s Grand Ballroom. The Blue & White Night event, hosted by the Penn State Lehigh Valley Alumni Society, will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on July 29. This fun night out will feature a buffet dinner, dancing and a cash bar. Tickets cost $70 per couple or $40 per individual. Included in the ticket price is one passport for the next day’s activities.
