Penn State celebrates first National PSHRS Day

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Hotel & Restaurant Society (PSHRS) will celebrate the first National PSHRS Day on Thursday, June 23.

The society will host alumni networking events to welcome recent graduates and bring together local alumni in 14 cities across the United States. Details for each location are listed below.

“As the oldest Affiliate Program Group in the Penn State Alumni Association, PSHRS has a history of contributions back to the students and alumni from the school,” said Jason Bayona, president of PSHRS and associate director of talent acquisition and staffing for The Americas at Starwood Hotels and Resorts. “As we look forward to the School of Hospitality Management's 80th anniversary in 2017, we have created a National PSHRS Day that brings together alumni, students, industry partners, faculty and staff to celebrate our rich history, while starting a new tradition.”

The event, which will be held annually, is intended to help alumni across the country to stay connected. Penn State alumni who have a connection to the hospitality industry through their degrees, current work or past work are welcome to attend any PSHRS events.

“The idea on June 23 is that wherever you may be, you can stay connected at various network locations or join in on your own through social media to be part of this signature event,” said Ryan Spear, membership chair of PSHRS and director of sales for The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park. “Membership in PSHRS is not required to attend, but once you see the participation it will be hard not to join. Benefits include access to job boards, career enhancement, networking, educational seminars, mentoring and supporting ongoing student and alumni events.”

Join the festivities across the nation, be sure to follow PSHRS, and post, tag and share on social media June 23.
