UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The External Advisory Board of the Schreyer Honors College honored the 10th anniversary of the leadership of Dean Christian Brady by naming an endowed scholarship in his honor. Penn State President Eric Barron and other dignitaries attended the dinner when Bob Edwards, vice chairman of the Schreyer Honors College External Advisory Board, announced the creation of the “Schreyer Honors College Scholarship in Honor of Dean Christian Brady’s 10th Anniversary as Dean” during the Board’s on-campus meetings earlier this month.

“It does not feel that it has been 10 years since Elizabeth, Izzy, Mack and I rolled into Happy Valley,” said Schreyer Honors College Dean Christian Brady. “So much has happened in our lives in the last decade and the Penn State community has supported us and truly become our family; or rather we feel that we are now part of the Penn State family. With the tireless support of Elizabeth and soon-to-be Penn Stater Izzy, it has been an honor and privilege to shepherd the amazing community that is the Schreyer Honors College. This is an incredibly humbling and generous gift. I am proud most of all that it will provide incredible support for our students in perpetuity. Now that is a legacy!”

Under Brady’s leadership, the Schreyer Honors College was recognized as one of the top honors colleges in the nation as he reinforced its mission and planned for its future. Since 2006, scholarship funding and travel grants have increased and new and expanded programs for scholars have been added to the co-curricular experience. With initiatives to help transform scholars into leaders of tomorrow, Brady has developed a culture of engagement that extends to all aspects of the Scholar experience.

“By endowing a scholarship for the Schreyer Honors College in Dean Christian Brady’s name, the board expresses its deep appreciation for all that he has done and acknowledges what he has meant to us over the past decade,” said Robert Poole, chairman of the Schreyer Honors College External Advisory Board. “We are so very proud to have Chris (Dean Brady) as our guiding force as he has enhanced honors education and elevated the Schreyer Honors College to its place as one of the top honors colleges in the nation.”

To date, Schreyer Honors College External Advisory Board members have contributed more than $185,000 for the scholarship and the first award will be made in upcoming 2016-17 academic year.

Donations to support this scholarship will be accepted through the Office of Development of the Schreyer Honors College in Atherton Hall or can be made online at giveto.psu.edu/DeanBrady. “The members of the External Advisory Board recognize the excellent leadership provided by Dean Brady over the past 10 years,” said Bob Edwards. “An academic scholarship honoring his tenure as dean seemed the most appropriate way to acknowledge his service given his passion for academics and his commitment to Schreyer Scholars. The board voluntarily raised more than $185,000 to endow the scholarship and that speaks to the enthusiasm we share for Dean Brady's work and for the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State."

The Schreyer Honors College promotes academic excellence with integrity, the building of a global perspective, and creation of opportunities for leadership and civic engagement. Schreyer Honors Scholars, including Gateway Scholars admitted after their first or second year of enrollment, total more than 1,900 students at University Park and 20 Commonwealth campuses. They represent the top 2 percent of students at Penn State who excel academically and lead on campus.

Supporters like the Schreyer Honors College External Advisory Board are invaluable partners in fulfilling the University's land-grant mission of education, research and service. Private gifts from members of the Penn State community enrich the experiences of students both in and out of the classroom, expand the research and teaching capacity of our faculty, enhance the University's ability to recruit and retain top students and faculty and help to ensure that students from every economic background have access to a Penn State education. The University's colleges and campuses are now enlisting the support of alumni and friends to advance a range of unit-specific initiatives.Follow the Schreyer Honors College on social media:Facebook  |  Twitter  |  Instagram
