Faculty member to lead cybersecurity panel in Washington, D.C.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A Penn State faculty member internationally recognized as a technology policy expert and who has been named by Time Magazine as one of the most influential figures in technology, will moderate a panel focused on cybersecurity May 2 during the CampaignTech East Conference at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

Sascha Meinrath, the Palmer Chair in Telecommunications, will moderate the session titled "Getting Serious About Cybersecurity."

The two-day conference (May 2-3) provides perspective on digital strategies, marketing tools and technologies for this campaign cycle and beyond.

Meinrath joined Penn State in 2015. He also serves as director of X-Lab, an innovative think tank focusing on the intersection of vanguard technologies and public policy. 

Meinrath has been recognized for his work over the past two decades as a community internet pioneer, social entrepreneur and angel investor. He was elected as an Ashoka Fellow for Social Entrepreneurship in 2012, has been named to the "Top 100" in Newsweek's Digital Power Index and is a recipient of the Public Knowledge IP3Award for excellence in public interest advocacy.

Meinrath is a regular columnist for the Christian Science Monitor and is widely published in both academic and media outlets.
