Arbor Day event beautifies Penn State Mont Alto Arboretum

Forty people including students, faculty, and alumni donated their time to improve the Penn State Mont Alto Arboretum during the “Every Day is Arbor Day” event on April 22.Groups planted shade trees, including a commemorative tree, and ornamental shrubs. They spread landscape mulch around trees and other plants; pruned trees to remove dead, rubbing, and over-extended branches; and removed invasive plants. Photos of the day can be found here https://www.flickr.com/photos/psuma/albums/72157667429351991The commemorative tree, a Bur oak, was donated by Henry (Hank) Hartman, class of 1959, and was planted in the Richter Oak Family Grove.“It was an awesome, beautiful day with students and alumni who rallied to help make the Mont Alto Arboretum as beautiful tomorrow as it is today,” said Instructor in Forestry Craig Houghton.

Bartlett Tree Experts, Cumberland Valley Tree Service Landscaping, Blevins Expert Tree Care, and Seidel's Tree Service contributed time and equipment to the Arbor Day event.
