UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University Fellowships Office will host “U.K. Week” March 28 to April 1, offering daily events for students to learn about scholarship and fellowship opportunities for study in the United Kingdom.
The events are open to all Penn State students, regardless of year, discipline, or academic affiliation, and will include general information sessions, opportunities to talk with current scholarship holders, and U.K. students studying at Penn State. University Fellowships Office staff will also be available for one-on-one consultations.
The program includes an information session featuring advocates and mentors for students interested in U.K. research opportunities. The discussion will focus on the role that a fellowship may play in one’s career and advice will be offered to students on ways to begin pursuing international academic experiences. Featured speakers will include: Song Tan, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology; Christian Brady, dean of the Schreyer Honors College; and Tanya Furman, interim director of the University Fellowships Office and associate vice president and associate dean for Undergraduate Education.
“We are hosting U.K. Week to make the Penn State community aware of the many diverse opportunities that exist for students to pursue academic and scholarly pursuits at some of the world’s top institutions,” said Furman. “Penn State students are well-prepared for these opportunities, and we hope to increase the number who will seek and receive them.”
The Churchill, Fulbright, Gates Cambridge, Gilman, Marshall, Mitchell, and Rhodes scholarships, as well as the National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Scholars, are among the experiences that will be discussed throughout U.K. Week.
The University Fellowships Office will also be hosting Fulbright Week April 11–15, where students will have the opportunity to speak with current and former Fulbright award recipients and learn about the application process.
