HERSHEY, Pa. — The Department of Humanities at Penn State College of Medicine will host a presentation featuring George Weigel, a garden writer, designer, speaker and state-certified horticulturist. Weigel will present “Gardening with Mother Nature” at 1 p.m. April 1 in Room C2860 on the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus.

Gardening can be one of the most healthful activities people do or it can lead to injury and environmental damage, depending on the approach. Gardeners who try to control their landscape tend to use — and misuse — power tools and regularly apply a variety of chemicals “just in case.” The other approach is trying to work with nature instead of trying to force our will upon it. That approach, which has been gaining traction lately, involves using good care techniques to keep plants healthy, picking better plants in the first place and treating problems only when the situation warrants.

This First Friday presentation is free and open to the public. No registration required. More information is available by calling 717-531-8778.
