"So, there are problems up and down the line. So, we come to Penn State. The students who are young women, minorities or have disabilities and have made it here to Penn State as STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) majors, they are the survivors. They are the ones who have navigated all of this other stuff."
-- Penn State alumna Shirley M. Malcom, head of education and human resources at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, spoke on "Science, Technology and Possibility," during the Penn State Forum March 22 at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center on the University Park campus.
"But beyond the faculty there are people in this room who touch students on a daily basis — from the staff, from the residence halls, from many different walks of life," Malcom said. "We have the responsibility to help grow the future, to grow the future, but it means seeing the possibility and it is that belief in the possibility that will help move us forward."
The next Penn State Forum will feature Jim Stengel, president and CEO of The Jim Stengel Company LLC, on "AHA! How to Build a Brand in 2016 and Beyond," on April 22, in the ballroom of the Nittany Lion Inn on the University Park campus.
