Student Nutrition Association offering free healthy cooking event March 31

Demonstration coincides with National Nutrition Month

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — March is National Nutrition Month, and in an effort to spread the message of nutritional awareness to the Penn State community, the Penn State Student Nutrition Association will be holding a cooking event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, in the Henderson Building food lab, Room 007, at University Park.

This year’s National Nutrition Month theme is “Savor the flavor of eating right,” and in line with that message, members of the Student Nutrition Association will be demonstrating how to cook a healthy and affordable meal. The event is designed to allow students who do not know how to cook, or those who do not know how to cook tasty, healthy foods, to learn to do just that.

The event is free for Penn State students with the donation of a nonperishable food item to the State College food bank.

The menu will be as follows:

Appetizer: Hummus with fresh vegetables and crackersSalad: Make your own salad dressingEntree: Tilapia with red quinoaDessert: Chickpea chocolate chip cookies

Space is limited to 36 students due to the size of the food lab. To reserve a spot, send an email to Samantha Twaroski at sst11@psu.edu.

National Nutrition Month is sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
