WPSU’s 'Higher Education in Focus' to highlight benefits of studying abroad

March 28, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The study abroad experience will be highlighted during the next episode of WPSU Penn State’s “Higher Education in Focus: Exploring Education Abroad” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, on WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM.

Penn State President Eric Barron will welcome Michael Adewumi, vice provost for global programs, and students Nicole Bernstein and Karan Sandhu for a discussion on the benefits and challenges of study abroad. Bernstein and Sandhu will also highlight their personal international experiences.

Study abroad — an out-of-classroom experience that enhances student learning — is one example of engaged scholarship at Penn State. Other examples of engaged scholarship include undergraduate research, embedded travel courses, internships and capstone experiences.

A senior majoring in chemical engineering, Bernstein traveled to Leuven, Belgium, through the EuroScholars Program during the 2015 spring semester and also completed a study abroad program in Beijing. Sandhu, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, studied abroad at the University of Southampton in England.

Focusing on University-related topics, “Higher Education in Focus” airs each month during the academic year.
