UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Mike the Mailman retires on April 1.

Students, faculty and staff still have time to stop over at the University Park post office and give best wishes to Mike Herr — and bring some cookies — but everyone can see Mike in action and chat with the man who's been a Penn State fixture since 1978.

At 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 14, Mike will address his fans and answer questions on a live Periscope video stream that will be broadcast through Penn State’s official Twitter account, @penn_state. If you miss the live chat, Periscope retains a video for viewing 24 hours after the initial broadcast.

Launched in 2015, Periscope allows people to share and watch live video broadcasts from a mobile phone, and it exceeded 10 million user accounts after the first four months.

In February, Penn State broadcasted its first “scope,” a three-minute clip of THON dancers being greeted by the “human tunnel” before entering the Bryce Jordan Center. Nearly 800 people watched it live.

Mike is annually one of the most popular guests at THON, has been the honorary grand marshal of the Homecoming parade and has been featured on the CBS Evening News.
