Travelers encouraged to register with streamlined Travel Safety Network

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's Travel Safety Network (TSN) was developed to support more than 10,000 faculty, staff and student trips to international locations each year. The TSN supports Penn State’s international engagement in an ever-changing, global environment and provides a place for faculty, staff and students to have a support system that can assist quickly during their time of need. The TSN simplifies many paper processes into a new digital format, easily accessible to all travelers.

“The safety of our faculty, staff and students is our highest priority,” said Michael Adewumi, vice provost for Global Programs. “We have had several emergency situations when we have needed to provide emergency evacuation to faculty and students. We want to prepare ahead of time, not in a reactive way, for these instances.”

Support services provided by the TSN include:

  • Emergency assistance
  • Access to Penn State’s international medical insurance
  • Group registration for the U.S. Department of State’s Smart Travelers Enrollment Program (STEP)
  • Access to country-specific travel resources
  • Export compliance review (Questionnaire meets the pre-travel export compliance review required under University Policy AD89.)

Penn State Global Programs will be hosting a panel discussion regarding the Travel Safety Network from 9 to 10:30 a.m. March 10 in the Garden Room of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center and from noon to 1:15 p.m. March 15 in 325 HUB-Robeson Center.
